About Melodica

“DIY to the Core.”
That was the ethos that started it all in the late 90s, and it is the principle that drives Melodica Skateboards today.

Our Roots

Melodica began as a creative experiment in the Finnish skate scene—pressing decks in furniture factories and hand-printing graphics in the dark of winter. It represented a time when skateboarding was less about “industry standards” and more about pure expression. We didn’t have big budgets or corporate sponsors; we had plywood, ink, and enough stubbornness to make it work.

The Mission Today

Today, Melodica Skateboards has evolved from a hard-goods brand into a digital archive and magazine dedicated to the independent side of skate culture. We are not interested in the corporate contest circuit, energy drink sponsors, or sanitized skateparks.

Our focus is strictly on the underground:

  • The Builders: DIY spot construction, backyard ramp building, and the art of pouring concrete where you aren’t supposed to.
  • The Creators: Independent board pressers, screen printers, zine makers, and filmers keeping the VX1000 alive.
  • The Scene: The gritty, unpolished street skating that happens at 2:00 AM when the cameras aren’t rolling.

Why We Exist

In an era of algorithmic content and 15-second clips, we believe in the tangible. We celebrate the skaters who build their own spots, print their own shirts, and film their own edits. Melodica is a tribute to the “Do It Yourself” spirit that keeps skateboarding alive.

Melodica Skateboards is an independently run publication.
